ASEANAPOL Secretariat and INTERPOL Deepen Strategic Dialogue on Global Policing Governance

Kuala Lumpur, 20 May 2025 — The ASEANAPOL Secretariat, led by Executive Director Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, participated in a high-level virtual meeting with Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau at the UAE Ministry of Interior and newly elected Chairperson of INTERPOL’s Committee on Governance.

 

This engagement reflects ASEANAPOL’s ongoing commitment to fostering regional and global cooperation in law enforcement, particularly within the INTERPOL framework. Lieutenant Colonel Al Marzouqi, who secured 67% of the votes from INTERPOL member countries during her election on 11 April 2025 at INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, France, emphasized the importance of inclusive participation from all regions, including ASEAN, in shaping INTERPOL’s strategic and institutional direction.

 

During the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Al Marzouqi outlined her vision for the Committee on Governance, focusing on enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and effectiveness within INTERPOL’s internal processes. She highlighted the necessity of broad-based engagement to ensure that diverse perspectives are integrated into the organization’s decision-making mechanisms.

 

Executive Director Vinluan reaffirmed ASEANAPOL’s dedication to contributing to INTERPOL’s governance initiatives. He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with the Committee’s leadership and underscored the value of ASEANAPOL’s insights in informing global policing policies.

 

This dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening the partnership between ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL, aiming to enhance collaborative efforts in combating transnational crime and promoting security across regions.
