On November 22, 2024, a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, led by the Honourable Major General Tran Minh Tien, Director General of the Office of Investigation Police Agency (OIPA), conducted a courtesy visit to the ASEANAPOL Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur. This visit was notable as it marked the first time an esteemed member of ASEANAPOL had visited the Secretariat for the year to assess its condition and accomplishments. The delegation, which also included Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Ha, Director of the Criminal Police Department, was warmly welcomed by ASEANAPOL Executive Director Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc, and other Secretariat staff, including the Director for Plans and Programmes.

The visit began with Executive Director Vinluan expressing his appreciation for the Vietnam Police delegation's presence and introducing the Secretariat's officers assigned to Vietnam and Malaysia. The discussions then shifted to several key issues raised by the Vietnam Police, focusing on the challenges of combating increasingly sophisticated transnational crimes, particularly those involving high technology. While the Vietnam Police remain committed to utilizing regional mechanisms for information exchange to address these crimes, they acknowledged that the effectiveness of these efforts has been limited.

The Vietnam Police emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation among ASEAN member states to improve the effectiveness of operations against transnational crimes, particularly in the area of information sharing. Additionally, the Director General of OIPA highlighted the need for strengthened collaboration between the Vietnam Police and the Royal Malaysia Police, noting that the ASEAN framework could play a crucial role in facilitating more timely and efficient information exchange. The Vietnam Police reiterated their commitment to being a responsible and active member of ASEANAPOL, further pledging to foster closer collaboration with other member states in the fight against transnational crime.
