INTERPOL President Graces the 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference

On 21 October 2024, the 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference commenced at the Myanmar International Convention Center 1 (MICC 1) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. This significant event, running from 21 to 25 October, carries the theme “Strengthening Regional and Global Partnerships to Combat Transnational Crimes.” This theme underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts among member countries to address the increasingly complex
challenges posed by transnational crime. Importantly, the status of this year's conference has been elevated to a higher level of engagement, reflecting its significance in both the regional and global security landscape.
The opening ceremony featured the presence of His Excellency Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, President of INTERPOL and Major General of the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Interior. Invited by Police Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe, Chief of the Myanmar Police Force, Major General Al-Raisi accepted the role of special guest for this prestigious event, highlighting INTERPOL's vital role in regional security discussions and initiatives.
In his keynote address, he emphasized the critical need for stronger collaboration between ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL to effectively combat the growing threat of transnational crimes. He stressed the importance of harnessing advanced technologies and fostering global partnerships to address emerging crime trends, such as cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. Major General Al-Raisi reaffirmed INTERPOL's commitment to supporting ASEANAPOL in its mission to enhance regional security and urged participating nations to share intelligence, resources, and best practices.
Following his address, he engaged in bilateral meetings with heads of ASEANAPOL member country delegations, fostering a collaborative environment for tackling the multifaceted challenges of transnational crime. This year’s conference not only serves as a platform for dialogue but also represents a crucial step in strengthening the ties between ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL, promoting cooperation and shared responsibility to create a more resilient and secure region in the face of evolving threats.
