The 42nd ASEAN National Police (ASEANAPOL) Conference was inaugurated on 21 October 2024 at the Myanmar International Convention Center 1 (MICC 1) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Running from 21 to 25 October, this significant event adopted the theme “Strengthening Regional and Global Partnerships to Combat Transnational Crimes.” This theme highlighted the urgent need for collaborative efforts among ASEANAPOL Member Countries (AMCs) to address the complex challenges posed by transnational crime, reinforcing the conference's critical role in both regional and global security frameworks.
The conference aimed to honor and strengthen long-term partnerships among AMCs, Dialogue Partners (DPs), Observers (OBs), and other like-minded entities in the ongoing fight against crime. Key objectives included maintaining peace and order, promoting sustainable security and economic growth in the region, and aligning commitments toward a safer ASEAN. Delegates from Royal Brunei Police Force, Cambodia National Police, Indonesia National Police, Laos Police Force, Royal Malaysia Police, Myanmar National Police, Philippine National Police, Singapore National Police, Royal Thai Police and Office of the Investigation Police Agancy, Vietnam.
Keynotes during the conference included remarks from the Chief of the MPF, who emphasized the evolving threats of transnational crime driven by technological advancements and global conflicts. He urged for strengthened interregional cooperation among member countries based on mutual respect for independence and national identity. The inaugural ASEANAPOL Founding Day Ceremony featured a video titled “The ASEANAPOL Journey (1981 to the Present),” celebrating the organization's 43-year evolution and milestones.
Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, President of INTERPOL, underscored the need for enhanced collaboration between ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL to combat rising transnational crime threats. He emphasized the importance of utilizing advanced technologies and fostering global partnerships.
The conference concluded with the endorsement for the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to host the 43rd ASEANAPOL Conference in 2025, along with unanimous agreement on the 42nd ASEANAPOL Joint Communiqué, marking a new chapter in regional cooperation against transnational crime.
