On September 5, 2024, the virtual Top 30 Women in Security ASEAN Region Awards ceremony took place, hosted by Mr. Chris Cubbage, CPP, CISA, GAICD, who serves as Director & Executive Editor of the Security & Technology Advisor. Mr. Cubbage is also recognized as a Top 40 Thought Leader in Security & Life Safety by the Life Safety Alliance and MySecurity Media Pty Ltd. The event celebrates the contributions of women in the security sector across the ASEAN region, spotlighting their leadership and impact.
Originally launched as part of a global initiative by the Women in Security and Resilience Alliance (WISECRA), the award has evolved into a prominent regional effort open to all ASEAN member nations. The initiative connects chapters from global security industry associations and women’s security networks across countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia. Now in its fifth year, the awards are organized by MySecurity Media, with significant support from regional industry associations. Nominations were received from ASEANAPOL Member Countries, with ten submissions from the Royal Malaysia Police and the Philippine National Police. In addition to the virtual event, in-person ceremonies are scheduled in Singapore on September 12 and in Kuala Lumpur on October 7, 2024.
Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, fully supported this initiative as part of his commitment to inclusivity of all genders in the pursuit of lasting peace and security in the region and beyond. He proudly commends the police awardees for their achievements and encourages more female officers from ASEANAPOL Member Countries to participate in future competitions, reinforcing the idea that diversity strengthens the collective efforts for regional stability and security.
