On August 20, 2024, in Vientiane, Lao PDR, ASEANAPOL Secretariat Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan and Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc, Director for Plans and Programmes, paid a courtesy visit to Police Brigadier General Kongsavath Bounlieng, Deputy Chief of the Lao Police Force under the Ministry of Public Security. Brigadier General Bounlieng was representing Police Major General Khamking Phuilamanyvong, Chief of the Lao Police Force.
During the meeting, Executive Director Vinluan provided an overview of the key roles and functions of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat as a regional law enforcement body that fosters cooperation and collaboration among the police organizations of ASEAN member countries and beyond. He emphasized the Secretariat's commitment to synchronizing efforts across the region and highlighted the importance of ongoing engagement and consultations with all ASEAN member countries to promote effective cooperation.
The discussion covered various topics, including the ASEANAPOL Secretariat’s planned and ad-hoc activities, upcoming capacity-building training programs for police officers, and preparations for the 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference, which will be hosted by the Myanmar Police Force from October 21-24, 2024.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties engaging in a productive dialogue about strengthening their working relationship and collaboration. There was a shared understanding of the potential benefits of their partnership, including the exchange of best practices, joint training exercises, and the development of unified strategies to address transnational crime.
