On August 12, 2024, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hosted a high-level delegation from the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Korea. The visit, led by ASEANAPOL Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan, represented a significant advancement in the cooperative relationship between ASEANAPOL and the Republic of Korea, particularly in addressing transnational crime. The Korean delegation, including senior officials such as Deputy Chief Prosecutor Mr. Shin Jun Ho and APICC Program Manager Mr. Yoon Soon Han, underscored the Republic of Korea’s commitment to regional security through strategic partnerships. The discussions focused heavily on combating illicit drug trafficking, a key area of concern for both ASEANAPOL and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Both parties recognized the ASEAN region's role as a major source and transit hub for dangerous drugs like methamphetamines and heroin, which have severe implications for public safety and regional stability. The discussions highlighted the need for stronger cooperation between ASEANAPOL and APICC to address these challenges effectively. The visit also addressed the devastating impact of drug trafficking on vulnerable communities, particularly children, leading to increased crime and social instability. Both ASEANAPOL and the Korean delegation emphasized the importance of protecting these vulnerable sectors and explored ways to enhance their collaborative efforts in combating drug-related activities. ASEANAPOL reaffirmed its commitment to both regional and global security, with a focus on combating various forms of transnational crime, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, and organized crime. The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to further training and enhanced cooperation, marking a significant step forward in ensuring peace and security within the ASEAN region through strengthened international partnerships. #ASEANAPOL https://twitter.com/ASEANAPOL1981 https://instagram.com/aseanapol/ https://facebook.com/ASEANAPOL/ http://linkedin.com/in/aseanapol-secretariat-344498ab http://aseanapol.org https://tiktok.com/@aseanapol?_t=8jSYhy4nN2u&_r=1 “Together We Keep This Region Safe"
