On August 7, 2024, ACP Dr. Bakri Hj Zainal Abidin, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat Director for Police Services, participated as a speaker at the Leadership Course (SUPT - ACP Series 2/2024) held at the Royal Malaysia Police College in Kuala Lumpur. He conducted a session on Strategic Decision-Making and Change Management aimed at building the capacity and enhancing the skills of 30 senior officers from the Royal Malaysia Police.
The participants in this program represent the future leadership of the Royal Malaysia Police, and their development is crucial for steering the organization through the complexities of modern law enforcement. Knowledge sharing is essential for developing human capital capable of addressing today's challenges, particularly in the face of rapid technological advancements and evolving societal demands. By equipping these future leaders with strategic decision-making skills, they will be better prepared to make informed choices about the organization's long-term direction, including setting objectives, allocating resources, and identifying key actions to achieve goals, all while considering relevant internal and external factors. These decisions require substantial commitment of organizational resources and have long-term impacts, underscoring the importance of strategic thinking at this leadership level.
In change management, it is vital to equip and support these leaders in managing organizational change effectively. They must adopt a structured approach to communicating changes and managing people and processes throughout transitions. This ability will ensure that the organization remains resilient and adaptable in the face of change. The session also forms part of a broader campaign to raise awareness of ASEANAPOL's role and contributions among all police officers in Malaysia. By making ASEANAPOL more widely known, we aim to foster greater collaboration and unity across the region. The strong collaboration and knowledge sharing between ASEANAPOL and the Royal Malaysia Police College align with ASEANAPOL's mission to improve expertise, share best practices, and strengthen ties within the region. By investing in the development of these future leaders and promoting ASEANAPOL, we are helping to secure a safer and more stable future for the region.
