ASEANAPOL Representatives Meet with Royal Thai Police to Discuss Transnational Crime Collaboration and Conference Hosting

Bangkok, Thailand - On April 3, 2024, representatives from the ASEANAPOL Secretariat (AS) convened with key officials from the Royal Thai Police (RTP) at the Marriot Courtyard in Bangkok. The meeting, attended by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Suresh Subramaniam and DSP Chan Yew Hiok from the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, alongside Police Major General Surapan Thaiprasert and Police Lieutenant Colonel Niyom Saleh Kaseng from INTERPOL NCB Bangkok, aimed to provide updates on ASEANAPOL activities since the 41st Conference held in October 2023 and to outline upcoming initiatives.
DSP Suresh Subramaniam kicked off the meeting by detailing recent ASEANAPOL activities, including chairing significant meetings such as the 38th ADSTC meeting and the 1st ACPQD meeting in February 2024. Noteworthy initiatives included Capacity Building Trainings (CBTs) on Wildlife Crime Trafficking and Fraudulent Document training, as well as the development of a mobile application and utilization of the e-ADS platform.
Moreover, AS highlighted new initiatives such as the establishment of dedicated ASEANAPOL desk officers for enhanced communication and the launch of various social media platforms to increase awareness among officers.
A key discussion point revolved around the need for RTP to designate focal persons to participate in discussions on ten Transnational Crime (TNC) thematic areas and to provide details on the new RTP Chief of Police. Additionally, AS sought confirmation from RTP regarding their readiness to host the 43rd ASEANAPOL Conference in 2025. In response, RTP affirmed their commitment to collaboration, stating they had initiated discussions within their departments and were well-prepared to host the 43rd ASEANAPOL Conference in Bangkok.
The meeting concluded with AS acknowledging RTP's dedication, particularly towards hosting the upcoming conference, and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between ASEANAPOL and the Royal Thai Police in combating transnational crime effectively.
This meeting signifies a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation in addressing transnational crime issues, with both ASEANAPOL Member Countries and the Royal Thai Police reaffirming their commitment to enhancing security and safety in the ASEAN region.
