Big bust by Myanmar cops as more than 1,000kg of narcotics seized in the Mandalay region

YANGON, Oct 3 (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities seized more than 1,000 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs worth 18 billion kyats (US$9.3 million) in central Mandalay region, state media reported on Saturday.

A combined team of anti-drug task force confiscated of more than 800 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine (ICE) and another 200 kilogrammes of Ketamine from a 12-wheeled container truck in Amarapura township on Sept. 29.

According to the investigations, the drugs were transported from Hsipaw township of Shan state, the report said.

Two suspects including the truck driver were charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Meanwhile, Myanmar's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Friday announced the extension of entry restrictions for travelers until Oct 31.

The suspension will be applied to the entry of all travellers, the issuance of all types of visas and visa exemptions services until the end of this month.

According to a release by the Ministry of Health on Friday, Myanmar reported 1,846 new Covid-19 cases with 54 more deaths in the past 24 hours.

The number of Covid-19 infections has increased to 465,922 while its death toll reached to 17,789 so far.

A total of 419,842 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals as of Friday, the release said. - Xinhua
