COUPLE NABBED AFTER DRUGS FOUND IN VEHICLE

IPOH: A man and his wife have been arrested after drugs worth about RM110,000 were found stashed in a car in Buntong here.

The lorry driver and his wife, who works in the grocery business, were nabbed in Desa Rishah, about 1km away from their house, last Thursday evening, said Perak deputy police chief commissioner Datuk Goh Boon Keng.

“We found nothing on them. They were then brought to their home for a further search, ” he told reporters yesterday.

Subsequently, he said police found 6kg of heroin and 549g of methamphetamine in the trunk of the car. Apart from the drugs, police seized the car, jewellery and RM2,000, he added.

DCP Goh said the man had a criminal record which included vehicle thefts, drugs and possession of firearms.

They have been remanded, he said.

The case, DCP Goh said, would be investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries a mandatory death penalty if convicted.

Separately, DCP Goh said as of June 12, the police had arrested 3,990 people for drug-related offences.

“From the number, 887 of them were caught for supplying drugs and 2,255 for possession.

“We also seized about RM13.7mil worth of drugs during the same time, ” he said.
